Bringing Quality to Life Y North Shore Family YMCA NORTH SHORE HERITAGE This end-to-end loading ferry served the North Shore communi- ty until 1958, when the ferry was discontinued. Bought in 1959 by Vancouver testaurateur Harry Almas, Ferry Number Five became a seafood restaurant. Mocred near the spot where the ald ferry dock had been, it opened in Novembcr 1959 and was reputed to be the first floating restaurant on Canadian seas. The distinctive neon sign over the top of the old ferry’s wheelhouses identifies it as the Seven Seas, and it continues to be a weli-known seafood restaurant and a reminder of our communi- ty’s history on the North Shore. — by Dorothy Foster ONALBA BACKHOR SERVICES INC.
