42 - Sunday, October 7, 1990 - North Shore News SPIRITUALLY SPEAKING Stars and spirit ACCORDING TO North Vancouver’s Robert Aiken, whose Heavens Above astrology column appears for the first time on page 44 in today’s News, an article about astrology is not out of place in the Spiritually Speaking section — although he admits that some people might not agree with him. “Phe Church I think was right- ly concerned about the misuse of astrology,’’ he said. ‘‘Such power can be abused. But there’s a lot of astrology in the Bible. The (three) wise men followed a star.” Furthermore, states Aiken, there is no inherent difference be- tween ‘‘spiritual’’ and ‘‘secular.’” “We're all laboring under the illusion of separation,’’ he says. “If you know that we’re all one, you're going to be a tolerant per- son who’s going to be able to ac- cept the perfection of everything.*’ And acceptance of this **oneness’’ will lead us back to the Golden Rule: ‘‘We'll do unto others as we would have them do unto us. And why? Because they are us.”’ While the study of astrology is one key with which we can unlock some of the doors to our uncon- scious, Aiken emphasizes that our future is not written in the stars. If we betieve that something ‘tout there’’ is in charge of our life, we lose any sense of personal accountability, says Aiken. “We create our own reality, we set up our circumstances. The good news is, if we want to change our cir- cumstances, we have the power to do that.” He cautions readers not to blindly believe any astrology col- ‘*Neither umn, his included. believe nor disbelieve it,’’ he counsels. Aiken says that what we see in the stars is not fixed, but a pro- jection of our own inner state. He uses the following metaphor to describe the relationship between astrology and our lives: “What is outside comes from within. Just as the images on a movie screen are determined by the film in the projector and there is clearly no point to rejecting or destroying the screen to protest displeasing footage, so it is with our lives. “It is to the film within the projector that change is necessary, and what we see on the screen can and should alert us to that need. Whatever we witness that seems to us ugly, distasteful, or in any sense disturbing, should flag to our attention those traits within us, for we cannot see what we do not project.”’ Therefore, he says, items in his News column that trigger a reac- tion with you ‘‘could flag to your atiention that you’re not as free or open or creative as you might be because you're blocked.’’ An astrologer for 30 years, Wolo Correction Notice Full Scale Sale Flyer Appearing Sunday, October 7 Page 20, Original Oil Paintings. $69.97, should read 30% off.
