The classroom experience is backed by work in the field overseas aS management trainees working for companies active in the Pacific Rim. West Vancouver resident Alan Dudley, 29, left recently to begin a one-year con- tract. as a management trainee at the Singapore tranch of The Royal Bank of Canada. In Singapore, Dudiey takes on the job of operations support of- ficer. For the first six months he'll work with staff to document operational procedures and pro- duce a procedural manual for each department at the bank. Once the process is completed, Dudley will have the opportunity to work in the various departments for which he has provided documentation. ’ Said Dudley, who has a BA in business from Simon Fraser Uni- versity and an MBA from the Uni- versity of Alberta, ‘‘! firs: became interested in the Pacific Rim dur- ing the Expo period, so I looked around for a program to take and I found this one through a brochure.”’ Dudley studied the Mandarin language at Capilano College to prepare for a foreign affair that could blossom into a long-term relationship. “‘No promises were made on ei- ther side,’’ said Dudley, “‘but the bank is hoping to make this an ongoing relationship by providing Pacific Rim experience for entry- level management personnel.” Bob Bagshaw, coordinator of the Capilano College program, says the mutually beneficial melding of business and acadeiszic worlds has drawn interest from other post-secondary institutions. ‘We're working with a group in Holland,’’ he said. ‘‘The Hoogeschol University in Mid- dieburg Holland is in the process of setting up a post-graduate pro- gram based on our program. We are also consulting in Quebec and Melbourne, Australia.
