SPRING BULBS & PERENNIALS

Now is the ideal time for selecting and planting. To avoid later disap-
pointments, check your planting depth guide for bulbs, as there is a ten-
dency to plant too shallow Gladiola and other large bulbs should be
covered by a minimum 5S to6 inches Even smalier bulbs like ranunculus and
anemones should have about 4 inches of coverage. Adding in bulb food
(3-15-6) or bone meal plus a generous sprinkling of bulb dust will help to
ensure strong, healthy plants and blooms. For the most part, perennials are
very hardy, and with tew exceptions should be planted now for best growth
Watch for tender new growth on items like lupins and delphiniums, which
should be hardened off for a week or two to avoid late trost damage

USING BONE MEAL IN THE GARDEN

We cannot stress strongly enough the venefits to be gained by wide usage
of this product. itis non-burning, long lasting and particularly excellent in
promoting rapid healthy root growth. There is one simple rule — use a fairly
generous sprinkling in the planting hold every time you transplant any tree
or shrub. !t is particularly good for giving bulbs and perenneals a strong
