strong month for multiple
dwelling starts even though
starts are down from
August's very high level, ac-
cording to Canada Mortgage
and Housing Corporation,

For September starts are
1,368 units compared to
1,783 units in August and to
the monthly average of 1,097
units so far this year. Lust
year in September = starts
were only 626 units or less
than half of this month's.

Most of September's
decline over August is in
Vancouver which is offset
somewhat by gains in Vic-
toria and Matsqui. For Van-
couver, multiples starts are
973 units compared to 1,423
units in August.

Victoria’s multiples starts
are up to 196 units from 116
units and Matsqui’s from 48
to 104 units.

Condominium starts re-
main on an uptrend. Accor-
ding to preliminary data 854
units started in September
which is similar to August’s
