the century unless a means of
prevention is discovered, says the
President of the Alzheimer Sup-
port Association of B.C.

A progresive, degenerative brain
condition with no known cause or
cure, Alzheimer's Disease is cur-
rently the fourth leading cause of
death in Canada, says °-Twigg-.

It is estimated that nationailv.the
disease causes 10,000 to 12,000.
deaths annually and that 300,000
persons in Canada are afflicted
with Alzheimer’s.

In B.C. alone :there are an.

The Kinsmen Laboratory of
Neurological Research, one of the
foremost research centres on
Alzheimer’s, Disease’ in the. world,
has recently been hit by budget
cutbacks. Hf it doesn’t receive more
funds it may have to shelve some
of its projects.

The Alzheimer Support Associa-
tion of B.C., which has established
a research committee to assess pro-
jects worth:funding, has provided
the Kinsmen Laboratory with a
$36,000 grant for one of its
research projects.

However, the association is
seeking more funds to help the
laboratory continue its endeavours
