on Third Street where it is joined
by Heswood Street to improve
traffic safety at the intersection,
North Vancouver City) Council

The $45,000 road improvement
was approved Dec. 10 because of
the danger now faced by west
bound drivers turning rizht onto
Heywood immediately before
Third Street hill, where drivers
traditionally accelerate.

A scarf report called the right-
turn bay ‘neither warranted nor
feasible," suzgesting instead that
council approve increased sizniage
on Third Street.

But said Ald. John Braithwaite,
“Signage won't change drivers’
behavior."

He added that he was familiar
with a number of accidents occur-
ring at the intersection.

Other aldermen reiterated
Braithwaite’s statement that
drivers will continue to accelerate
at the bottom of the hill, making
the intersection dangerous for
drivers who are turning.

“The Third Street hill is like the
Indianapolis Speedway or the
