UESTION: A little
over four years ago, I
asked to borrow
some money from a

friend at a time when I was in

a financial bind. He certainly

could afford to let me have it

and came through very nice-
ly. I mean he didn’t even
want me to sign anything and
he didn’t give me a time limit.

Since then, he has con-
tinued to do very well for
himself, but I have found

myself still to be in
‘straightened cir-
cumstances.’’ We saw each

other quite a bit in the first
year afterwards and he never
said.a word to me about pay-
ment. Since then, we have
hardly seen each other at all
until last week when i
bumped into him.

He was very friendly. In-
vited me to have coffee with
him and we chatted for an
hour or so. Again, he never
mentioned the money, nor
did 1. It was aimost as though
he did not want to worry me
or push me. I wondered
whether he had just decided
not ever to mention the debt

and just let it go. If that is the

case, I would be very
grateful, of course, but it
would be perfectly alright

with me. As I say, he can very
well afford to forget it. It's
not as though I am putting a
burden on him by not paying
up. I’ve practically decided to
say nothing and just fet it
slide but [ thought I'd ask
what you think. He has
chosen not to say anything,
so_I guess there is no reason
why I should. Don’t you
agree? Don’t you think he is
just taking his way of saying
**forget it my friehd'’?
