Students spend summer helping senior citizens An imaginative wind-up to a summer of service was staged last week by students who have spent the summer months helping senior citizens. Participants on the federal Summer Youth Employment Program “Student Services for Seniors” held the last performances of a novel fashion show which they staged at 10 private hospitals and rest homes on the North Shore. Directed by supervisor Arlene Campbell and entitl- “ed “Old Fashioned Days”, it featured fashions from the late eighteen hundreds to the mini-skirt. At the Kiwanis Lodge and Inglewood Lodge in West Vancouver a private collection of authentic period costumes owned by Jonathan Walford were shown by volunteer models. The emphasis in the young people’s work for seniors during the summer was on outings — the highlight be-~ ing the Malibu Princess cruises up Howe Sound or Indian Arm, with lunch aboard prepared by the students. Kay Cragg, coordinator of the North Shore Volunteers for Seniors (the sponsoring association) praised the en- thusiasm and hard work of the students. “We couldn't have func- tioned one half as well without their help,” she said. The association’s regular weekly programs for the fall started yesterday and volunteers are needed in several of the homes. Persons interested in this rewarding volunteer work are asked to call Kay Crags at 922-2816 or 926-4838. — LOVELY MODEL Dody Dubeta will commentate a special fashion show “Just Fo Teens” at Park Royal's South Mall tomorrow (Thursday, September 4) at 4 p.m., and Tp.m.- See us far good Neanng ad seevece sales repairs battences and advice northwestern hearing centre 1910 Lonsdale north vancouver 9305 Set 9 301 Closed Mon Open tues bre 985-5552 OFF ICE PERSONNEL et .
