The compost demonstration gives people an excellent chance to research many of their composting choices. By composting their yard and kitchen wastes, householders can reduce their garbage by up to one-third, an important step in this era of solid waste reduction efforts. Composting is definitely the focus of the North Shore Recycl- ing Program this spring and summer. Also under way are plans for a central composting centre in which residential, commercial and municipal yard waste will be transformed into a marketable garden fertilizer, and for the sale of inexpensive backyard com- posters to North Shore residents. More details on these two pro- grams will be released soon. For more information about the compost demonstration garden, call the North Shore Recycling Program at 984-9730.
