Bus experience all down hill

A few years back I read an
article in the North Shore
News that made me appreciate
living in this beautiful neigh-

borhood, where the trees are
green, people friendly and
where you know your local bus
driver.

The article said that a driver
will stop: during late evening
and night hours even between

the walk home shorter and

I never needed to use this
option, as our house is very
close to the bus stop —until
recently,

1 was returning home from
my evening shift after a very
busy day at work, one hour
later then usual and therefore
not with my “regular” bus
driver,

I was tired. 4¢ was half past
midnight, 1 knew that my
infant son would wake me up a
few hours later, and while
thinking about all that I
noticed my stop only as we
were passing it.

I rang the bell with an apol-
ogy: “Sorry, I almost missed
my stop!” The bus did not
slow down, the driver did not
reply.

I expected the bus to stup

20 metres later, because. there:

Highland and Montroyal:

now much slower, up the
Montroyal Boulevard.

I pleaded once more for
him to stop. This time he
grumbled something unintelli-
gible in response.

Then we finally stopped at
the regular bus stop halfivay up
the hill on Montroyal. F was
not upset or angry, more sad

So as I was getting. 6
said: “Too - bad you. did ‘not
stop for me, now I have a mile
to walk back.” And his abrupt
reply?

“It's down the hill!”

I wonder if he was right. Is
it really going down the hill? |
