Connell missed Dear Editor: I am interested to know why your paper has failed to publish any coverage of the new Grant Connell Tennis Centre. Nine years ago the idea was spawned and since that time many volunteers have given countless hours helping to make this a reality. The centre was named after a North Vancouver tennis play- er that we are all proud of for all his achievements. . ~ Finaily, this is the only com- pletely. public tennis centre on _the North Shore. It is available to all with no initiation fees. « This is something that the ‘North Shore should be proud ‘of and everyone should be ‘made aware ofits existence. . Alison ML. Whilst there may be some justification for the honour for long-serving Mayor Loucks, there are three rcasons why such a process is faulty. B It should not be a prerogative of paid elected members (in fact elected by a very small proportion of the residents) to name streets after themselves. At the least, the views of all residents should be considered from the result of a referendum. B Should not the countless long-serving people in all walks of life in the public and private sectors be considered equally? @ Over a period of years a continual naming of streets loads a city or township with an excess of long-forgotten narnes; as for example has taken place in many areas of France. At least in that country most names are of heroes and battles and high politi- cians of the republic, with a few scientists and other eminent people from other countries. Our Vancouver neighbours over the water have shown. better taste by using trees as names for many of their streets. : Richard Wilcock North Vancouver sed on suspect data “can be attached to a report that once in an entire fite- time someone that a woman knew touched her knee with- out an invitation?” While Canadian feminists were giving vent to fashion- able angst, the Kuwaiti survey questions.
