10 — Sunday, December 6. 1998 ~ North Shore News Bridge solution needed Dear Editor: Open letter to The Honourable Harry Lali, Minister of Transportation and Highways: Just lass week Ewwas stuck in a traffic jam oon the Second Narrows Bridge due to an acei- dent oon othe — north-end approach area. The delay was just short of two hours. I don’t know how far the traffic was lined up behind me, but southbound traffic was lined up at least 6 km. The point being, as has been deseribed to vour offices before, that on the north end of the bridge there is no prop- cr egress of access to relieve sit- uations such as this. And these incidents will occur time and time again, and even be exacerbated when the Lions Gate Bridge rehabilira- tion begins, Then all hell will break loose. Perhaps it is a “persistence” that is required to have some action by your government on this long overdue problem. Accordingly, I wish to place you on notice that the topic of traffic infrastructure on the approaches at the north end of the Second Narrows Bridge will be primary on every dis- cussion and speech by North Shore MLAs towards you and your government in the future. Daniel M. Jarvis, MLA North Vancouver-Seymour Aci now to head off Dear Editor: TL oreseived my full colour brochure estoliing the virtues of the “New Old) Lions Gate Bedge” ia the mail a while age, courtesy oof the BC Transportation Financing Authority. Or what about an Ambleside-to downtown ferry service? These should not be cis- missed as crackpot nothing- better-ro-do-when-the- Enternet-is-down notions. Thev deserve some studied thought not only as short- term construction ntitigation measures, but more impor- tantly as part of a iong-range transportation plan. Clearly, the “New/Old" LGB can only carry as much trattic as the old bridge, so. we need more options to accommo- date future capacity. Otherwise, and $75 million or so later, it will still be the same old same old slowly getting worse. Cartoon criticized Dear Editor: Bad taste. The cortoon in a recent News making fun of John Glenn, the | distinguished astronaut, definitely belongs to the category above, So did, some weeks ago, a note of your reporter when describing an alleged sexual offender by stressing — his “French accent.” Is this eoin- cidence or interpretation of the freedom of speech princi- ple the News claims to be devoted to? Anvene because you Qoseat on the mean pesides, there’s »p vou from ini Dosanjh a champion hypocrite Dear Editor: Timothy Renshaw’s column of Now 29 (“Phonies on the free speech front”) was right on the mark. But for all that perhaps it was even an understatement because in a province stutted with socialist hypocrites Attorney General Ujjal Dosanjh is the champ. With his record as a cen- sor it rakes perverted logic to state, as he did, that “free speech and press are the most precious things we have.” His comment was made in the wake of the murder of Sikh editor Tara Singh Haver. But a stranger would never guess that Dosanjh is the most fanatical backer of the NDIP"s anti-iree speech Human Rights Code. That he could make such a statement is bevond beliet. There's more to it, though. Dosanjh has been successful in’ getting the feds to agree to an omnibus bill that goes even further than our ["aTTention: abominable nights code. [t pre poses that the mere posession of “hate propaganda” will become a crime. And who will decide what is “hate propa- ganda?” Why, Dosanjh, of course, plus Ortawa’s army of obedient bureaucrats and pressure groups like the Canadian Jewish Congress. As in B.C. in the eves of the law, truth will be no defence. On top of that, the police will be empowered to seize computer hard drives: thar contain “hate propaganda.” Dosanjh is ror only a hypocrite. He is the most dangerous man in Victoria. Perhaps, one day, the mainstream media will wake up to thar fact. Meanwhile, it is to be hoped that opposition MPs will do something, but it seems to me that they too are mesmerized by buzz-words like “hate.” Doug Collins West Vancouver Complete mechanical & electrical repairs - by factory trained technician IMPEX AUTOMOTIVE 1335 Pemborton Ave. Tel: 985- 6237 Visit our web site: www3.be.sympatics.ca/i impoexautc/impexauto.html =o Li | ON ALL B.C.
