make as a parent.

Deciding who to trust your
child with when you're at work
can be a daunting task.

The first step is to decide
what wpe of care works best
with your lifestyle, schedule,
and pocketbook. There are
three basic types of daycare:

In-home care is usually the
most expensive kind. It
involves a live-in “nanny” or
sitter who takes care of your
child in your home. It has
some obvious advantages. Your
child gets attention, love and
care from one person who’s
there when you can’t be. Ifyou
work odd: hours or need to
travel, an in-home caregiver
may be better able to adjust to
your schedule.

You have two choices of in-
home caregiver: live-in help,
usually called a nanny, or a day-
time sitter.

As the demand for high-
quality child care increases, the
number of trained nannies who
live with families is growing.

Sitters who are skilled and
experienced in baby care aren’t

Some centres may have
planned educational programs,
even for babies. There are
some disadvantages, thougii.

colds and other minor ill ilinesses
Because daycare is a low-paid
ficld, staff turnover may be
high. If you visit daycare cen-
tres, look for their license on
the wall. Make sure it’s cur-
rent.
