Coun. Andy Danyliu wondered
what the range of fines would be for
infractions, as West Vancouver
District Council gave final reading to
the bylaw May I.

The fines will be imposed at the
discretion of a judge, upon convic-
tion, to a maximum of $2,000,
according to Coun. Ajlan Williams.

cated fines in the $50-$100 range
when the guilty party has had some
kind of warning.

Acting Mayor Rod Day congraiu-
lated councillors Williams and Diana
Hutchinson and all of the other peo-
ple who worked on noise bylaw.

The bylaw has been in the works
for the past six years.

Williams recommended that the
hylaw not zo into effect until June 1,
to give ratepayer groups and the pub-
fic in general the opportunity to
become more fimiliar with it.

The bylaw will be assessed after
six months and brought back to coun-
cit for any necessary amendinents.

The new oylaw limits sounds
throughout the municipality to 80
decibels in the daytime and 75 deci-
bels at night. In quiet zones noises are
further restricted to 35 (day), 45
(night) and in activity zones they are
limited to GO (day), 55 (night) or 45
(nigh) where the point of reception is
in a residential area.

The rest of the bylaw jinposes
limitations on the hours a person can
use chainsaws, chippers and leaf
blowers, Iuad or unload goods, uper-
atc power equipment for construction
or vehicle or boat repair, create expio-
sions or perform vocal or instrumen-
tal music.

Jn the latter stages of the bylaw
development, debate centred upon
the hours when many home repair
and golf course maintenance activi-
ties can be performed.
