An Argentine friend grumbies that the Spanish think they’re liv- ing in the 16th century. “They still think they’re ruling the world.”” Maybe, but they sure know how to put on a show, and they’ve got their party clothes on until Oct. 12. Unfortunately, a lot of people are going to miss the one in Seville. according to Greg Bar- salou of West Vancouver’s Trust Travel, who made the arrange- ments for BCTV’s coverage of Seville. Barsalou has booked only one family to Spain. That’s too bad. Like most world expositions, . EXPO '92, which celebrates the 500th anniversary of Columbus’ arrival in the Americas, got nega- tive advance press. I went recently for five days, .with the critical eye of a writer and exhibit consultant. While EXPO '92 lacks some of the friendliness of Montreal and Van- couver, language, partly culture. A friend who lived there for . three years swears the Spanish are the most fun-loving people he knows. Even so, I was bowled over by the combination of EXPO *92 and Seville. This is the largest exposition ever held, set in one of the oldest and loveliest: cities in Spain.
