(VPC) is considering a pro- posal to build a new cargo terminal at its North Van- couver Norterm facility. By Surj Rattan News Reporter Peter Smith, VPC engineering manager, said Thursday that the port is considering expanding the area between the asbestos wharf at Cassiar Mining Corp., and a ter- minal elevator owned by Pioneer Grain. “At this point it’s nothing more than a concept we're studying at the port. Before we go ahead we'd hold public hearings,”’ said Smith. He added that the cargo termi- nal proposal is one of several con- tained in an internal VPC Port 2010 discussion paper that is aim- ed at studying future port facili- ties. Smith said Port 2010, which is only being discussed internally by VPC officials, will take between 1% to two years to complete. Port 2010, said Smith, is the port’s equivalent of an official community plan for municipalities that will target long range plans for the VPC. But Smith conceded that the future outiook for cargo to be handled by the port dictates that more cargo facilities will be need- ed. “Our forest products terminals are operating to capacity right now.
