He'll again be front and centre on Saturday, June 16, when he'll be honored by the Variety Club’s Tent 47, as the winner of their prized Golden Heart Community Achievement Award. The black-tie affair will be held at the Van- couver Trade and Convention Centre... nee Speaking of that hard-working group, welcome home to that large contingent of local Variety Club members who travelled down to Los Angeles last week, including their Media Man, West Van's Art Jones. They were in Los Angeles for the 63rd annual Variety Interna- tional convention and brought back a couple of awards with them! The prestigious Mort Sun- shine Award for the best in-house publication documenting the work of the organization was presented to publisher Peter Legge. Variety in B.C. is a new quarter- ly magazine written by the club, produced and published by Peter and his staff at Canada-Wide magazines, Tent 47 also won the Interna- tional Sunshine Award for their highly successful Sunshine Coach program. Apparently they manage to put more specially-designed vans on the road each year, more than any other tent in the world! Very special mention must be made, too, of Variety Club's chairman of the board, Barbara Stewart. Barbara was presented with the Variety Club Interna- tional’s Presidential Citation, honoring her for her many years of outstanding service to B.C.’s special kids. Barbara’s a tireless worker as well for so many other community organizations, including Ronald McDonald House. She's the wife of Vancouver’s chief constable, Bob Stewart, mother to six Photo subsnitied BARBARA STEWART, chairman of the Variety Club, was recently awarded the Variety Clus Iinternational’s Presidential Citation for her many years of outstanding service {4 B.C.'s special children. children and grandmother to nine, a true humanitarian, a sincere, car- ing, down-to-earth person as well as being just simply a lovely lady! And there’s so few of those around!... Art tells me that the convention itself, which was held at the Cen- tury Plaza, was a phenomenal suc- cess, with the largest international attendance ever! The celebrity dinner, which was hosted and pro- duced by the Disney organization was a truly awesome $150,000 production of singers and dancers and dazzling special effects.
