ae 14 - Sunday, March 25, 1990 - North Shore News FASHION Express yourself with creative jewelry FINE JEWELRY lovers will be thrilled with the magnificent array of designs for the ‘90s that will allow them ultimate creative freedom for self-expression. Best fashion bets in fine jewelry are: charm bracelets, bold geometric pins and earrings, anima! jewelry, color in gemstones and enamel, fancy cut gemstone jewelry and bigger pearls for necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Charm bracelets will feature nautical, animal ‘‘romantic motifs’’ (hearts, sun, moon, stars) or coin attachments. They especially look good with ethnic- inspired fashions. Stack them with large link gold chain and wide bangle bracelets. Bold pins and earrings, in gold or sterling silver, will be featured, in addition to the ever-popular polished finish, in matte, satin, sandblasted or hammered finishes. Look for these treatments, too, in men’s cufflinks and tie bars/ tacs. Contrasts in metals will cor- relate with the contrasting shiny/ matte fabrics combined in spring fashions. Animal jewelry — from charms to earrings to pins — is available in favorite ‘‘pets’’ (cats, dogs, trop- ical fish) and running the wild gamut from aardvarks to zebras. Whether diamond and gemstone- studded or all-gold or all-sterling, animal jewelry can be either sporty and fun or statement-making. Color is the key to spring, and hence to spring jewelry as well. Gemstones or enamel are being us- ed to bring life to designs such as stack rings, which often feature a variety of colored gemstones, floral design pins and pendants, and even the newest watch dials with brightly colored enamel faces. Favorite springtime gemstones are blue topaz, aquamarine, citrine, peridot, emerald, pink tourmaline, amethyst, coral and pearls, to name but a few. Newest looks for some of these gems are the innovative ‘‘fantasy”’ and one-of-a-kind cuts for which designers create unique, artistic settings. Diamonds, too, are being fancy cut and set. Bezel and flush set- tings are new, as well as the use of baguettes and ‘‘princess’’ or square cuts as well as triangular cuts in everything from engage- ment rings to earrings to ‘‘tennis”’ bracelets. And, the trend of more dia- monds in men’s jewelry continues into the new decade.
