The 13-year-old North Van- eouver girl was between sizes, and work on department store cata- fogues and flyers was not as abun- | dant as in the past. “I was too large for children and too young for. teen sizes,’’ said Telek, who began ‘modelling at the age of 10, : “TI was calling my agency all the time asking if anything was hap- pening. ” Persistence paid off for Telek, who leaves this week fer a summer modelling contract in Japan. The honror-ro}! student, who - recently graduated from grade seven at Norgate- Community School, will travel on her own to Japan. Instead she said she'll work primarily for Japanese print media. ‘Telek says she isn’t "worried about travelling alone to Japan, as she has heard from a friend, who has modetled in Japan, that the - experience is very worthwhile. TALENT SCOUT Telek said she was selected for the Japan contract after an inter- national talent scout saw her photo at her agent’s office. “Fe chose me off the teen head ‘sheet and said if I’m anything like my picture he’d like me to go to Tokyo. I had to get more pictures done because they require body shots and head shots with teeth,’ she said. Telek said she'll be the youngest Canadian model working in Japan with this particular agency. . Telek first began modelling after ‘her aunt gave her $100 for her bir- thday, and said she could do as she pleased with the money.
