G YMNAS TICS Flicka hosts gym trials NORTH Vancouver Flicka Gym- nastics Club is hosting this year’s first trials for the B.C. gymnastic team, March 22 to 23, A record 29 girls will compete this weekend as they try to qualily for the Western Canadian Cham- pionships and Canadian Champi- onships in May. The trials count for 40 per cent of each girl’s point total, The other 60 per cent will be amassed April H-13 at U.B.C. at the B.C. Elite Championships. The province’s senior gymnasts are all from the Flicka Gym Club. Sandra Botnen, 15, competed in the '85 World Championships in Montreal, while Tracy Wilson, [7, finished fifth at the first national selection meet in March. Miriam Michel and Kristen Wingfield are both 15 and both ranked among the top gymnasts in the country. , Twelve junior girls, double the number last year, competed in Saturday’s optionals.
