NOW THAT Kevin Davis
has raised the issue (*Cas
customer tired of being rain-
ed on’, North Shore News,
Wednesday, April 24. 1985),
Lalso take exception to how
the companies treat their
cuMomers.

When companies went
self-serve, il was a@ move by
them to cut down on service
to the customer like checking
the oil, Tan belts, battery,
ele. Ht was also an empleyee
cut-back, They completely
ignored the consumer,
because most of their sta-
tions do not shelter from the
rain, their customers who
now have to get out of their
cars to fill their gas tanks
and if they need more air in
their tires, they have to drive
to a remote corner of the lot
with no shelter from the rain
whatsoever.

My letter concerns the re-
cent Channel 10 programm-
ing regarding the recent
proposal by local devetvpers
requesting North Van Coun-
cil to rezone the Park &
Tilford property from it's
present industrial status to a
commercial status to. permit
a’ commercial development
on the site.

1 would like to point out
to your readers and any
council members who may
read this that the Federal
Conservative Government
and the Provincial Gov-
ernment has pointed out,
many times, that Canada’s
recovery (from it’s present
economic stagnation) will
come from the Private Sec-
tor and not from Gov-
ernment bodies.

Well, the Private Sector is
requesting the rezoning of
the Park & Tilford property
for commercial use to enable
a development of consider-
able magnitude to take place
in the area. The Gardens will
be kept and even enhanced.
The project will create jobs,
not only in construction, but
in its operations for years to
come. All levels of Gov-
ernment would also benefit
from additional tax dollars,
Let’s hope the local
bureaucracy sees it the same
way,

slance, could ‘blow’ sour
engine ora low battery could
leave you abandoned on a
highway. Ho seems strange
that the municipalities did
not consider this indifference
to their citizens when issuing
self-serve permits to the ma-
jor oi! companies.

The only Lower Mainland
municipalities with proper
feclings towards their citi-
zens, who refused the oil
companies their ‘self-ser-
vice’? permits were Rich-
mond and the District of
Coquitlam.

Why did the municipalities
of the City of North Van-
couver, the District of North
Vancouver and the
Municipality of West Van-
couver ignore their citizens’
rights to proper shelter by
granting such permits?
