World doesn't owe aged a living

: money. It does not appear to belong to
anybody. The temptation to bestow it on
somebody is overwhelming.

All this fuss over the tiny
cuts being made in the old
age pensions is so much
windyfoggery. .

Too many of the old think
that the world owes them 2
living. Well, it doesn’t. Most
of them are well off and
wouldn’t suffer if there were
no old age pension at all.

A few years ago, a survey
showed that over half of our
old age pensioners didn't
need the money, And the real
figure was probably much
higher. People have a tenden-
cy to be shy when’ asked
whether they have enough
beans.

As for John Turner and his
disgusting Liberals, Moliere’s
Tartuffe was no more
hypocritical than they. If
Turner had won the election,
he would have done exactly
what Brisn Baloney & Co.
have done. As it is, Turner’s
trying to out-bleat the
lunatics on the NDP benches.

The opposition and the
donkeys of the media pretend
that every old age pensioner
is a little old lady or gent
slopping up porridge in some
cold garrett. Turn on the TV,
and you are sure (o see some
poor old sou! apparently
gasping her last. But a year

ago, even the biased National
Council of Welfare reported
that only 25 per cent of pen-
sioners were living in ‘‘pover-
ty’’, which was defined as be- -
ing an income level of from
$9,218 a year to $12,583,
depending on the area..

No one wants to mention
that’a lot of people have done
absolutely nothing to provide
for their old age, they having
preferred to eat, drink and be
merry. (Which is OK if so-
meone else doesn’t have to
pay their bills later.)

1 admit we're stuck
with such people. But you get
the point. Not everyone is the
victim: of circumstance.
Many are victims of them-
selves. As for the rest —
those who are having a hard
