All the signs were that he
would be declaring a date
imminently, until Prime
Minister Trudeau's surprise
announcement of a Federal
election May 22.

Suspicions of a
“dynamite” budget have
been rampant. since
reporters have been told
there will be unusual
security measures to prevent
leaks of tomorrow's budget
specch, with declarations
that they will be only
allowed to read it behind
locked doors until its official
release.

Observers feel sure that
Bennett had intended
following through a bonanza
budget with an clection
announcement the following
day.

But now opinions are split.
Many feel the upcoming
federal clection may have
destroyed the plan and
Bennett has been forced to
put off calling an clection
and will arrange for the
planned budget to be
hurriedly re-written to save
heavy ammunition for a later
election.
