after two sodden nights on
the mountain,
peratures dipping near zero,
were heightened by the fact
that they were wearing only

light summer clothing -- in —

two cases only T-shirts and
cutoffs -- and had no food..

The girls told rescuers
they had taken the wrong
trail back down the
mountain about 6 p.m.
Sunday after thick fog closed
in. They wound up high on
the edge of a 300 foot
precipice.

They were saved by cool

heads and commonsense --
improvising a_ leaky,
makeshift lean-to in which
they huddled together for
warmth, and sharing «two
chocolate bars, two apples
and four ‘oranges, together
with some berries they had
picked along the way.

For Milo McGarry and his
elder daughter Marion the
ordeal was hardly
exhausting, as they passed
the seemingly endless hours
