(Oct. 24). First, BC Tel related the amount of the increase in cach community to the number of ex- changes that community will gain toll-free access’ to under the pro- posal. ‘ ; * Today, the North Shore can call only six exchanges toll-free, and the individual line residential rate ($12.05 per month) — the lowest in the Lower Mainland -— reflects that. Under the proposal, the North Shore would be able to call 13 more exchanges toil-free. The purpose of the local calling plan is not to generate profits for BC Tel. In fact, the CRTC would not have approved it otherwise. The proposal offers what BC Tel believes to be the best solution to a long-standing customer com- plaint about inconsistent rates and Mainland, To satisfy that customer de- mand, BC Tel would fike to see this proposal passed. Lastly, the CRTC has already passed the proposal, contingent upon a simple majority of voting customers approving it by ballot. In the final analysis, Lower Mainland customers will decide whether or not this proposal is in their best interests. Dale Reid, project manager BC Tel Br, #118, 123 V/. 15th St., N. Eileen Bykes : West Vancouver Cloud of dust Dear Editor: : A short story from this area of the woods: A policeman in his cruiser decides to do some law enforce- ment on the 30 km/h restricted part of Cartelier Road, He parks on the wrong side of the road, certainly less than one metre from the corner, and exactly adjacent to the fire hydrant! Then, after performing his duty diligently for the next short while, off he roars down the same road, accelerating in a cloud of dust and fumes, certainly the fastest car through the curves that we have seen all day!
