The socicry moved to Gastown fora while, then to Lonsdale and Third, renting two store fronts at Third and Lonsdale. “Then we thought instead of just doing Friday night shows, lets take it to the p r North Shore youth,” he said. The first year Under The Volcano drew 300 for the Smugglers and the Evaporators. It’s continued to grow from there. The coliective has ambitious plans for next year's install- ment. Said Oostindie, “The Abborsfurd Airshow has been taken over by a military trade component called COM-DEF. It’s funded by the Canadian government ar: the largest mili- tary weapons trade show in North America.” The warfare extravaganza coincides with the weekend of the 10th anniversary of Under The Volcano. The collective has been in conversation with “a few international artists who are known for their militant stand against war and militarism.” The Cates Park event will grow to include The Women Against War Festival in downtown Vancouver. The collective plans a conference, 2 publication, a poster series, a CD project and five music. Oostindie doesn’t call the weekend a protest gathering. “The theme will be celebrating our cultures of ance. It’s not an oppositional thing where we «will be criticizing the gov- ernment.
