smoking ban pleases

DESPITE SOME — concern
from parent groups about
how the policy amendment
process functions, West
Vancouver school trustees
have had nothing but compli-
ments from the public about
their decision to extend their
smoking. ban to all grounds,
buildings and vehicles on
school property throughout
the municipality.

the news that the Heart aad
Stroke Foundation of B.C,

sentthe board a clear eter of

support batking its position
on the extended ban.

The foundation's advoca-
cy committee chairman, Dr.
Victor Tuckell. wrote to
commend the board for its
actions.

Huckell said, “By imple-
menting a no-smoking policy
you (the board) have taken an
important step in the fight
against heart disease and
stroke.”

He added that he hoped
“all school districts will fol-

low your example.”

In addition, Prustee Clive
Bird mentioned that the
school district has not
received ane complaint
against the ban ¢ither by let-
ter or phone call.

and calls regarding the ciga-
rete thats,

Several parent advisary
groups have said they wished
there had been more and
greater notice about the
motion to finalize the ban
during the board's mid-
October gencral meeting.
