Joy Metcalfe JOY TELLS ALL IT WAS just a wonderful time touring around the har- bor enjoying high tea on the high seas last week onn board the spacious Sunset Bay 11 as a guest of the Vancouver Port Cerporation’s Ron Longstafié and his vivacious wife Jackie. They were entertaining the Lord Mayor of London, Sir Paul Newell and Lady Newell and British High Commissioner to Canada, Sir Nicholas Bayne and Lady Bayne. U.K. Consu! General Brian Austin was also on board with B.C.’s for-- mer Agent General in London, Garde Gardom, MP Anna Tarana, Harbor Master Gordon Houston, Canada Place chairman Farouk Verjee and the Pan Pacifics’ John Williams and Susan Gomez. - The Lord Mayor and his party had been touring 15 cities in 22 days and spent some time over in Victoria at the Commonwealth Games with the Queen and Prince Philip... The tea, by the way, was Lipton’s Red Rose and the Lord Mayor was heard to utter the words, “Only in Canada, you say? Pity!” It was simply a fabulous birth- day party for sprightly Dee Webster in the Marine Lounge of the Westin Bayshore to celebrate Dee’s big 4-0! There were at least 60 close friends, a waltzing gorilla, multi- colored balloons, ice carvings, flowers, a huge birthday cake and a surprise for Dee — a print by her favorite artist, Alberto DeCastro, called Friendship. Her favorite fellow, Greg Douglas, really pulled this party off well! Dee recently overcame a dev- astating illness. She never let it get her down, she fought it with courage and good humor and she’s won... The Crystal Pavillion in the Pan Pacific Hotel was the colorful set- ting for the Alzheimer Society's annual fundraising dinner dance. Molson’s Indy had invited the world to its “Race agaisnt Alzheimer’s” and the event was sold out completely. It was also a farewell salute to the racing world’s Mario Andretti. And his whole family was there to enjoy it. Even the Pan's chef Enrico Balestra arrived from the kitchens to sing a medley of Italian favorites. Dinner patron Juliette came with her sister, Suzanne, while Bob and Bobbie Kadiec attended with Diane Forsythe and Don Sutcliffe, Drinda and Barry Scott, super lawyer Terry LeLiberte and about 400 other guests. The charming Phil Reimer emceed, the Anna Wyman dancers and the incredible Japanese Drum Trio entertained while Mark Hasselback and his Orchestra played. North Van's Alzheimer Dinner chair Judy Strongman was ecstatic with the $70,000 raised that night... Quite a festive affair in Park Royal south as the 15th-annual Coho Festival got under way Tuesday night. There were a number of spectac- ular paintings that had been judged that afternoon with Bruce Muir winning the first-place prize of $7,000. His art work will appear on all Salt Water licences issued in 1995. The affair was emceed by veter- an Monty Mefarlane and attended by VIPs like renowned artist Daniel Izzard and his wife Pilar, North Shore Mayors Dykeman and Loucks, MLA Jeremy Dalton, Allan Williams, festival head Bill Soprovich, PIR's Wendy Cummings, Keith and Fay McMynn, Fran and Emerson we!
