As part of their Stay in School initiative, ihe North Vancouver ~ $choot Board is sponsoring this event where members of the - community will discuss the issues and expiore the solutions, ex- plained Bruce Gurney, chair- man of the forum organizing ~ commities, and curriculum consultant for the North Van- couver Schoo! District. Teachers, administrators, parents and businesspeople will participate in the discussions, as well as community support ser- vices such as counselling cen- tres and volunteer agencies. Keynote speaker Doug Mann- ing, active in organizing Stay in Schoo! activities in the Okanagan School District, will spearhead discussion on the topic of students at risk of drop- ping out. A five-member panel — pareni, a teacher, a businessperson, an ad- ministrator, and a researcher — will respond fo Manning, and members of fhe audience will be asked to participate through discussions. Drop-out studenis will also have their say through a video filmed at the North Vancouver Youth Learning Centre where dropouts who are back in school will give their opinions as fo why the school system failed to keep their interest. The students at risk forum will be held Thursday, May 24 from 7 to 9:45 p.m. at the Leo Mar- shall Curriculum Centre, 840 West 24st St., North Vancouver.
