classes held

NEW AT recCentre Lyn Valley
this spring is Tae Kwon Lo for
teens.

Tae Kwon Do is an ancient
Korean self-defence martial art
and Olympic sport. It enables
Students to develop intense con-
centration, coordination,
discipline, patience, leadership
skills and respect for themselves
and others.

Organizers say this martial art
emphasizes physical growth and
enhances mental strength.

Teen Tae Kwon Do is offered
on Sunday afternoens from I to
2:30 p.m. at recCentre Lynn
Valley, 3590 Mountain Hwy. in
North Vancouver.

The program is offered to
young people aged 13 to 17 years.
Classes start on April 14 and no
experience is necessary.

Beginner and advanced level
Tae Kwon Do programs for adults
and schooi-age children are of-
fered at recCentre Seylynn, 605
Mountain Hwy. in North Van-
couver, starting April 8.

The Red Shield
needs help

THE SALVATION Army needs
10,000 volunteer canvassers on
May 6 to help raize $750,000 to
contribute to the 1991 Red Shield
Appeal target of $3.65 million.

Red Shield funds are allocated
to 45 Army programs and services
including transition houses for
battered women and_ children,
homes for unwed mothers, drug
treatment centres, seniors’ resi-
dences, and the Harbour Light
Centre on skid row.

Organizers say people can make
the difference in the community
by volunteering two hours for
canvassing.
