A fall program at Capilano College will look into safe food handiing. safer SAFE FOOD-handling practices are the focus of a program offered by Capilano College, in conjunc- tion with the North Shore Health Department. Known as Foodsafe, the pro- gram was developed for workers in the food service industry, but may appeal to the general public as well. In Basic Level 1, the eight hours of instruction time cover topics such as microbiology, food-borne illness and hazardous foods. Learn by viewing actual video case his- tories the mistakes that can be made and how to improve food- handling techniques to provide safe meals. This course is recom- mended for entry level workers. In Advanced Level II, the eight hours of instruction covers food poisoning and prevention, and management topics such as main- taining a sanitary operation, Ad- vanced Level I] is recommended for senior level personnel. Upon successful completion of the final exam, a diploma and wallet card will be issued. The names will be sent to a central reg- istry in Victoria maintained by the Ministry of Health. There are no prerequisites for either course. Both levels wili be offered through Capilano College as follows: Basic Level I, Tuesday, Sept. 20, 27, Oct. 4, from 7 to 10 p.m.; Basic Level 1, Saturday, Oct. 22, from 8:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.; Advanced Level HI, Tuesday, Oct. 11, 18, 25, from 7 to 10 p.m,; Ad- vanced Level II, Saturday, Oct. 29, frorn 8:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Register by phoning Extension Programs, Capilano College at 984-4901, Learn cooking at the Quay THREE SPECIAL weekends are planned at Lonsdale Quay Market this fall.
