Canada’s international grand master Duncan Suttles will be honorary arbiter at the West Van- couver Open Chess Tournament being held Friday to Sunday, Nov. 13 to 15, at the West Van Sentiors Centre, 695 23st St., and Park Royal South. The tournament, hosted by the West Vancouver Chess Club and the West Vancouver 75th Anniver- sary Committee, consists of four separate divisions. The Open Tournament com- mences Friday, Nov. 13 at & p.m. at the seniors centre. The Senior Tournament and the Ladies Tournament begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14. The Junior Tournament, for those born after Jan. 1, 1968, will be played at Park Royal South on Saturday, Nov. 14 at 10 a.m. Reg- istration will be at 9 a.m. at the Chess Square. The B.C. Cadet Championship for those 15 years of age and under will follow on Sunday. The winner will be sent to Ottawa to participate in the Cana- dian Cadet Championship next spring. The tournament is attracting chess players from as far away as Toronto, Prince George and Salem, Oregon. Top prize is a computer which will be awarded by West Van- couver Mayor Don Lanskail. Other cash prizes will be awarded by West Vancouver Ald. Pat Boname, Park Royal manager Per Danielsen and the chess club’s eldest member, 94-year-old William T. Money. Registration for the open tour- nament will be available on site Friday, Nov. 13 from 5 to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. Chess Federation of Canada membership is required and will also be available at the time of reg- istration. Seniors and ladies may register Saturday, Nov. 14 from 9 to 10 a.m. Registration for the junior tour- nament will be available in Park Royal’s south mall in front of the Bay Saturday, Nov. 14 from 9 to 10 a.m, The public is invited to attend at both sites to enjoy the tourna- ments.
