B2 - Wednesday, September 5, 1984 - North Shure News HIGH SCHOOL soccer kicks off in a big way this weekend with Sutherland Sabres hosting a tournament on Friday and Saturday. The four teams making up the tourney include the pro- vincial champions from Port Alberni along with Langley, Centennial and the hosts from Sutherland. Port Alberni boasts a big, strong midfield which helped them to B.C. honors last year while Centennial from the Fraser Valley should have their traditional hard working forwards to keep the defenses honest. Langley is always one of the stronger teams in the province, and the host school was so close last year, finishing third in the tour- nament. Sabre coach Vince Alvano has set the tournament up as a kickoff to the high school soccer season. Games get under way Fri- day at four p.m. with Langley taking on Sutherland at Sutherland while Port Alberni goes up against Centennial at Boule- vard Park. At six p.m. Sutherland and Port Alberni match up at Sutherland while the other pair go at Boulevard. Both these games are one hour in duration. Saturday morning at 10 a.m. Sutherland plays Cen- tennial at Sutherland while Port Alberni and Langley meet at Boulevard. Again, both these games are one hour in duration. At noon, in_ regulation length games, the final plac- ings will be determined with the consolation final beginn- ing at 3 p.m. and the final at five p.m. both at Sutherland. . The public is invited to come along and take in some pretty good soccer action.
