A7 - Sunday, September 11, 1983 - North Shore News EE mailbox [><| Dear Editor: Have we lost our Human rights or have some self- styled interest groups claim- ing to represent us merely lost their power? Those vocal members of the human rights industry, so Strongly aligned with the political left would have us believe that all our individual rights such as the freedom of speech, assembly, associa- tion, religion, life and pro- perty etc. have been snatched away from us with the aboli- tion of the Human Rights Commission and_ Branch. Those same people, claiming to have no rights, were free to leave their jobs without being fired in order to assemble and call the government and those supporting it Fascists. Those same _ people have disrupted a parade with their placards, have used every forum available to exercise their right to free speech, all in a province they claim has no democratic rights. Those same people, whose only motivation they say is compassion for their fellow man, steal the name ‘*Solidarity’’ from those Poles who have bravely risk- ed death, injury or imprison- ment under the Solidarity banner in order to grasp for basic individual freedoms. The very freedoms that the See % Specials ‘ - ? 0 ON DRAPES & BEDSPREADS solidarity imposters here are exercising in order to tell us we no longer have. And what are they deman- ding? They are demanding the government return power to a clique of people, unac- ‘countable to the electorate. People, who while hiding under a cloak of ‘‘compas- sion’’ rhetoric, were organiz- ing a network of advocacy groups in order to con- solidate special interest group power. The Human Rights Code provided this group with the power to enter the property of an accused, seize records and papers, demand a signed statement and ultimately, as with Hunky Bill, force the accused to take part at -considerable legal cost, in an inquiry. All this under a presumption of guilt and failure to comply would be to commit a crime. ‘*A little extra bit of weight on the scale’’is fair however, says Frances Wasserlein of Women Against the Budget because women, for example have historically been discriminated against. [1 seems when presumption of innocence is no longer helpful to their causes, human rights advocates are very quickly prepared to abandon this cornerstone of our common law. it is dangerously ignorant Fall DISCOUNT Aa Nbwikks, g When you need protessional advice and guaranteed no shrinkage of your valuable drapenes. call the drapery specialists at Roy s Ory Cleaners With regular professional cleaning your drapertes will look better and last longer We re not expensive either our large volume tets us charge competitively low prices Let Roy s take the ‘worry out of your drapery cleaning Roy s also sepcialize in cleaning all types bedspreads. elderdowns quilts comforters etc with Guaranteed Workmanship FREE Pick-up & Delivery North & West Vancouver ROY’S DRY CLEANERS 987-3431 987-3233 648 Queensbury Ave. North Vancouver Dear Editor: 1 address this letter to the in- humane, callous beasts who were responsible for the deplorable, tragic act of dragging a helpless dog, which was tied to the rear bumper of their cas, for more than a block last Sunday. Although | realize it would be above your intelligence to actually read a newspaper, | want to tell you how much you disgust me. I believe you are in desperate need of psychiatric help, although after the atrocity which you have com- mitted you certainly do not deserve it. , Sue Murray North Vancouver to think that by placing such authoritarian powers in the hands of a few, one can pro- “tect anyone’s freedoms. Such action only provides those few andthe groups operating through them with power to manipulate the individual. Government has the respon- sibility to protect our in- dividual freedoms but once the balance shifts to the point where people think their freedoms are provided by the state, we no longer have any. How it goes, however, is still up in the air. Should the taxpayer pay the railways, pay the Prairie farmers, or force other users of the CNR and CPR to foot the bill for ex- port grain? I] would have us pay the railways. Why? Because payments to the railways can be phased out. Pay the farmers and we have a political liability on our INNER SPACE Hypnotism... from the inside out crease creativity for people involved itn that kind of ac tivity What is hypnosis? Is it scary? Will I be totally under someone's control? This writer volunteered to undergo hypnosis to see what it felt like and gauge the results Rutley explained that hyp nosis is just a state of mind or way of thinking that ts achieved by relaxing, similar to meditation. Dan did not ask me to look into a spiral or at a dangling watch. First he ask ed me what areas of my life | felt could be improved After naming a few problems such as insomnia and others, he talked to me quietly while | progressively became more relaxed All the time I felt fine, was totally aware of what was going en. could hear everything and could answer any questions = In fact, | felt more than fine It felt good to relax so deeply | felt strong, yet just resting | found that | did lose track of time I figured Dan had been talking to me for about three ons tour minutes Jt was more like twenty as | later found out While in the hypnotic state a person ts extremely sug gestible It ts Ihe a direct connection to the sub conscious While in) the hypnon state, it is possible to ‘re program” your mind with D.
