The current tunnel proposal for
the harbor linking the North
Shore and Vancouver does. not
sound feasible to me.

There are problems with tunnels
and the projected cost of $1.2
billion is vastly larger than what a
new Lions Gate Bridge would
cost,

1 also suspect that without ex-
tensive revamping of connecting
arterial systems, a tunnel would
have minimal impact on reducing
or improving traffic flow.

It might have a minimal effect
on improving North Van traffic
but would have a negligible cffect
on improving West Van traffic
unless it were ty replace the bridge

altogether, thus leaving the tunnel

as the only alternative.

_ The idea of building a new
island in Coal Harbour presents
many problems and the financing
scheme proposed is questionable
unless some potential interested
party shows strong interest in it,
which is possible with that area
slated to be another False Creek
“Hongcouver."’

Such financing for a new tunnel
would’ have to be iron-clad guar-
anteed as the cost of over $1
billion (excluding inevitable cost
overruns) ‘is vastly larger than

’ what a new toll bridge might cost.

Let’s get on with a. new bridge
before the current ‘‘ninth wonder
of the world”’ collapses.

seniors on a walk to Killarney
Lake in Crippen Regional
Park and i was shocked by
the growth of weed on the
lake surface which had spread
over half the water area in the
Jast few months.

- One can only hope. that the
regional park authority - has
plans .for cleaning this attra.-
tive body of water before 2x-

Hate an ‘effective weapon’

Dear Editor:

Kooky Canada. There's, a nice
ring to it. Kooky Canada. And the
term is so appropriate.

1 guess we can still use the term
“kooky”? without the roof falling
in on us under the weight of some
nebulous hate crime provision.

I feel safe in saying that because
“kooky”? is the term used by
Canada’s ministers and
thought-control apparatus when
teferring to persons who dare ex-
press views that differ from those
sanctioned by the establishment.

Actually the establishment is not

opposed to hate. It just wants to .

monopolize it. In fact, hate is one
of its most effective weapons.

When those in control want to
destroy people,: they initiate smear
campaigns.

The complaint media repeat the
charges ad nauseam until the pop-
ulace is conditioned into accep-
ting, even applauding, the unjust
treatment that follows.

Obviously Doug Collins is not a
tool of the compliant media. That
is why he is under the fire of the
establishment’s powerful hate
weapon.

In view of its track record, Col-
lins can wear the establishment’s
attack upon him as a badge of
merit.
