WITH the possibility of a heavy snowfall on the °

mountains this weekend, there is an increased risk
of avalanches.

Tim Jones of North Shore Rescue said anyone travelling i in
the back country should exercise “extreme caution.”

“The snow pack with the cooling trend means chere’s 4
large accumulation that will lead ro natural and human-trig-
gered avalanches,” said Jones.

He also warned of potential avalanche risks on any alpine
trails outside patrolled ski areas — even immediately outside
ski runs. ;

RCMP Const. Dan Guilfoyle asked that hikers, snowboard-
ers, snowshoers and skiers “be extra careful, with the weather
conditions —~ and pay attention to warning signs.”

Last year an avalanche oa the popular Grouse Grind trail
killed Ontario hiker Rory Manning and injured several others.
The trail was so treacherous that it took months for search
teams to find Manning’s body.

ing a free pick-up and drop-
off service to keep the roads
clear of drunk drivers,

get more mileage at this tes-
tive time of year when spirits

raised.

Justine Crawford, one of
the owners of the Raven,
decided to launch the Raven
Rider service in memory of a
close friend who had died ina
drinking and driving accident.

The pul’s GMC Suburban
has a seven-person capacity
and a full-time driver who will
pick up and drop off cus-
tomers seven days a week, The
Raven is open for business all
week from 11 am. to mid-
aight.

their homes and the restau-
rant/bar. The service has been
