There are two basic means
of replacing windows to
upgrade their performance
and appearance.

The first and most in-
volved is to replace old
windows with stock units
available through most
building supply dealers.

This requires a complete
removal of the old unit and
quite often resizing of the
window opening. This is
more easily accomplished in
a home which has a wood
siding than brick veneer
construction.

brick veneer could require
the services of a professional
brick layer.

Depending on the level of

expertise of the do-it-
yourselfer, resizing windows
may require a renovation
contractor.

The advantages offered by
this type of remodelling are
humerous, and could offset
having to hire professional
help.

more readily availabvle than
custom sizes, and are very
competitive in price.
Window sizes can be
enlarged on the south wall to
attow more solar heat gain
during the winter heating
season.

wood with insulating glass
