chasing the city-owned land.
The proposed development is
closer to the top of the creck
bank than recommended by
the Department of Fisheries
and Oceans in its guidelines for
land development.

Dean’s request on Monday
night should be the final chap-
ter in the story. Earlier in the
mecting she had attempted to

delay the issue until a study of

the environmentally sensitive
area was completed. Bur. the
delay would nor have impeded
the developer from starting the
project.

During discussion, Coun.
Bill Bell accused the majority
vote of being bliaded by the
sale of land,

Coun. Barbara Perrault
denied that money was an
influencing factor tor the deci-
sion. She cali¢d the martial arts
‘centre a “benign use” of the
site.

She added that it was
unlikely the development
would cause any environmen-
tal damage. The site is current-
ly contaminated and the devel-
oper’s plans include cleaning it
up.. i
