AH HECK, Gut Y MESS 4TH PERFECTION ? r uke ISA B SERIES OF DP NUMBING J CRISES. .AND THEN You Go To DIINEY. 4 yaa fh See OS Mage esa Ts TS S Our bondage is an illusion HEAVENS ABOVE SOME OF us wonder whether certain “teachers” of the east place sufficient emphasis on morality in mankind's spiritual quest. According to Robert Powell, “The point is that man freed from his fetters is Morality personified. Such a man therefore does not need any moralistic injunctions in order to live righteously. Thus, Maharaj’s primary concern is to free man from his bondage, whereafter everything else will take care of itself.” On the other hand, man in his unredeemed state cannot possibly live morally, no matter what moral teaching he is given. It is an intrinsic impossibility, for his very founda- tion is immorality. That is, he lives a lie, a basic contradiction: function- ing in all our relationships as the separate entity we believe ourselves to be, whereas in reality no such separation exists. Our every action therefore does violence to other “selves” and other “creatures,” which are only manifestations of the unitary consciousness. So society has to invent some restraints in order to protect itself from its own worst excesses and thereby maintain some sort of status quo. The resulting arbitrary rules, which vary with place and time and are therefore purely relative, it calls “morality,” and by upholding this man-invented “ideal” as the highest good — oftentimes sanctioned by religious “revelation” and scriptures — society has provided man with one more excuse to disregard the quest for liberation or relegate it to a fairly low priority in his scheme of things. ALL SIGNS There are people whose intuitive perception is not necessarily free of astral illusion, egotism or desire for glamour. Requiring periodic seclu- sion, intuitive search, meditatica and spiritual renewal, they often associ- ate with spiritual retreats, ashrams, churches and monasteries. There can be guru worship and cultism because of the emotional drive to belong to something that confers spiritual status. Such people also feel the need for a human figure or personification of the Deity to whom they can express their reli- gious devotion. They are.uncon- * sciously seeking a father figure who can assume responsibility for the dizection of their life, especially if their Neptune is adversely aspected to Jupiter. Identification with a guru or cult provides a vehicle through which they are able to express ser- vice in order to feel that they are uplifting humanity. When they attain greater spiritual maturity they realize that their allegiance need be only to a universal, infinite spiritual power which is the ultimate reality. It is in this power that all time, space, form and personality mani- festation are contained. Oct. 16-22, 1994 T ARIES (March 21-April 20) Harmony, Sunday, Aries, however, you could overspend.
