Qostindie receives art award

IRWIN OOSTINDIE, communica-
tions coordinator fer the North
Vancouver Community Arts Caun-
cil and a former council president,
was presented the Annual Award
of Merit at the arts council's 24th
annual general meeting.

Oostindie received the award for
his advocacy on behalf of North
Shore youth and leadership in de-
veloping programs for young ar-
tists.

A photographer and Sutherland

Seconcary grad, he. was the
youngest president elected in the
arts council's history.

In 1989, he founded the North
Shore Youth Arts Society, which
Operated independent youth-cen-
tres during 1989 and 1990.

Oostindie also coordinated
YouthSpeak ‘90, a North Shore
youth conference that attracted

300 young people, and created

Western Canada’s largest annual
youth festival at Cates Park, Under
the Volcano.
