Keep safety in mind © Inspect the saw before start- jag. Do not use a saw with dam- aged, loose or missing parts. e £nsure that the guide bar is tight and chain fits snugly without binding. © Know how to use the controls before starting a chain saw. © Ensure that the chain is clear of obstructions before starting. © Hold the saw firmly on the ground. Point the chain away from your body and nearby obstruc- tions. Use a quick, sharp motion on the starter cord. © Warm up the saw prior to cut- ting. The saw should idle without the chain turning. If the chain con- tinues to turn after the throttle switch is released, stop the saw. Then adjust the idle as shown in the owner’s manual. Do not: ¢ “‘Drop start’’ (starting saw in hands). This leaves only one hand to control a running saw and has resulted in leg cuts. © Start the saw unless it is at least three metres from an approv- ed fuel safety container. © Make adjustments to the chain or guide bar when motor is runn- ing.
