There’s no use especially the Las Vegas fans. There’s no doubt that Las Vegas casinos are bigger and flashier. Sure, they have their share of small dumps, but nothing can compare with a place like Caesar's Palace for opulence. I’ve found that no casino in Las Vegas will give you any better ex- change than you get here. Perhaps Las Vegas’ biggest ad- vantage is that there’s a lot of things to do for those who have been stung at the slots or who prefer not to gamble at all. Here are a few highlights I discovered last week. ¢ Fashion Show Mall Our driver from the airport remarked as-we passed, ‘‘My hus- band has forbidden me to set foot in there!’ One visit tells the story. Five. major department stores, in- ‘cluding _Neiman . Marcus, plus ‘a ‘collection of some of. the. fanciest - (and most expensive) smaller shops add up to one word: bankrupcy. I saw more elegantly dressed, © diamond-studded matrons there in ~ five minutes than I'd see all month in North Van. I, modestly attired ‘ina pair. of cotton pants and a windbreaker, felt like - the downstairs maid. More interesting to me are some . of the little runabouts that resem- ble some of the cars my Dad own- ed, like the one he began teaching me to drive when I was 12. It overlooks the golf course and even in December it’s magnificent. Don't order the Spanish Om- elette — the sauce is a real eye- opener, aa If you don’t gamble, you can have a very inexpensive vacation in Las Vegas. To be sure you get in on the best deals, look for a monthly flyer, published by the Las Vegas Ad- visor ($1) which lists all the best buys, especially in food. Here are a few examples listed in the flyer: Flamingo Hilton: Salad bar featuring shrimp, scallops, lox, asparagus and many more luxury foods. Lunch $5.95, dinner, $6.95. California Club: Complete prime rib dinner, $4.75. Tropicana: Prime $4.95, Palace Station: Bacon and eggs (or sausage) with hash browns, toast and jelly for 49 cents but it’s served only between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. at that price. Buffets abound in Las Vegas and at very low prices. However, | must warn you — quantity doesn’t always mean quality. I sampled the lunch buffet at Circus Circus and would only go again if I had seven starving kids to feed. The flyer also lists the best deals in drinks, entertainment and bonus coupons.
