THREE members of North Van-
couver’s Chena Swim Club placed
in the top 24 of the Esso Canada
Senior National Swim Meet, which
was held in Winnipeg’s Pan Am
Pool Jan. 31 to Feb. 3.

Suzy Stanton and Lisa Woods,
both of North Vancouver, and
Andra Anglin of West Vancouver
will receive provinical funding fol-
lowing their finish.

The girls swam in nine events
during the meet and posted eight
personal best times’ and one
seasonal best.

The swimmers competed in heats
to gain a spot in the finals (the top
eight in the couutry) or the con-
solation finals (positions nine to
16).

Stanton and Woods were final-
ists in the 200-metre freestyle,
200-metre backstroke and 200-
metre fly events with a first alter-
nate position in 200-metre

individual medley.

Coach Jan Henderson, who ac-
companied the girls, said she was
extremely satisfied with the team’s
effort.

The meet was a triple trial for
the Pan Am, Pan Pacific and
FISU Games coming up in the
summer of 1987.

More than 80 clubs and such
renowned swimmers as Alex
Baumann, who won the 200 and
400 individual medley events, and
Victor Davis, gold medalist in the
100 and 200 breaststroke events,
competed in the meet.
