Bs REM PEMBERTON News Reporter North Vancouver District Coun- cil sent a letter to the coroner's of- fice, following the fatalities, re- questing an inquiry be held. Mayor Marilyn Baker said in the past 10 years there have been seven accidental deaths at Lynn Creek, including the most recent deaths, and three possible suicides. Coroner Bart Bastien said an inquiry is done by the coroner as a matter of course, to determine the cause and possibly make recom- mendations. Bastien said before proceeding with the inquiry into the deaths of Robert Grant, 22, and Kyle James Mallach, 26, he is waiting to receive all investigative reports from the authorities. Grant drowned after jumping into Lynn Creek with two friends July 7. Mallach slipped from the canyon and fell !5-metres into an area, known locally as 90-foot pool on July 13. Bastien said an inquest may be held, but this is yet to be deter- mined by the metro-regional cor- oner. “ff there’s public concern it’s done up usually by an inquest,’’ he said, adding, ‘‘! know there is a concern with the canyon.’’ Bastien said an inquest would also determine the cause and look at the situation surrounding the fatalities, but unlike an inquiry, a five-man jury is used.
