But ten to nineteen per cent of B.C. preschoolers, aged one to five, remain unimmunized against measies, mumps and rubella (MMR). In an effort to raise parental awareness, the Ministry of Heaith and the North Shore Health Department are waging a special MMR immunization campaign from April 29 through May 10. Although the North Shore Health Department is not planning a special im- munizaiion clinic, parents are urged to check their child’s immunization record. MacBean, Med- ical Health Officer at the North Shore Health Depariment, says he believes the immunization rate on the North Shore to be as high as 90 per cent. ‘‘I'd like to see 100 per cent immunized,”’ Dr. MacBean says. Measles, one of the most serious of the common childhood diseases, can, in some cases, cause serious health problems. Ear or sinus infections and a high temperature can accompany measles and in rare cases, pneumonia, encephalitis and even death can result.
