Catching up on travel mailbag

s I promised last week, I'll start to get some
of the recent mail into print.

DEAR BARBARA: Some
tume back you wrote an arti-
de on a holiday to Afnca
which was not a good place
to go. Since | found out |
have a grandson who is in-
terested m going to Africa so
would like your recopy of
same as have mislaid your
last writing on subject.

ANSWER: I’m sorry !
can’t provide copies of any of
my articles — simply because
{ don’t keep them. I have a
company that clips and
distributes the columns to
other pewspapers and my
middle daughter clips ours
and mails them to my mother
in Medicine Hat.

Uctuelet harbor. Last spring
when Brian and | went whale-
watching aboard one of the

DEAR BARBARA: I’ve
just returned from Amster-
dam where we had a wonder-
ful vacation. | clipped some
of your past columns and
tried not to miss anything —
the canal cruise, the Anne
Frank House (chilling, but
history brought to hfe). Lov-
ed the cat boat (note: a canal
boat that acts as a home to
Amsterdam’s strays — hun-
dred of pussycats all over the
place). And the food! We
met some other couples and
went together for a ‘‘rice
table’’ of Indonesian food.

We took a stroll through

the infamous red-light
districts with the hookers in
the windows — maybe that’s
what Vancouver needs in-
stead of our ladies of the
night patrolling the streets.
Mind you, it isn’t the safest
place for lady tourists — the
hookers know darn well we
aren't buying the produce!
My husband and 1 were
walking along, minding not
our own business and one
‘‘girl’’ dumped a jug of water
out of a second storey win-
