They were the crew of a Lancaster Mk. III bomber, cali sign GR-V for Victor, belonging to 61 Squadron, No. 5 Bomber Group, RAF, and completed a tour of 30 bombing missions over Nazi- occupied Europe in the two years they served together. On the night of September 19, 1944 they were attacked by a radar-equipped Junkers 88 while raiding Rhedyt, Belgium, and sustained ex- tensive damage.
