that your parents used the
term “cirrhosis” rather than
sclerosis. The term indicates
the replacement of func-
tional liver tissue by scar
tissue. The loss to a person
of the many very important
functions of the liver can be
extremely serious and even
result in death. This con-
dition can be caused by
viruses, drugs and various
industrial poisons such as
solvents, but most cases of
cirrhosis are caused by

For a long time it was
thought that the heavy
drinker who ate well
wouldn't get cirrhosis, but it
is now recognized that even
a good diet contaming lots of
vitamins doesn’t necessarily
protect a person from liver
damage.

for us to alleviate our
anxiety, and in addition may
make us feel guilty for
having been unfair. Guilt is
another kind of stress.

to do is to learn to cope with
the anxiety in a way that
damages no one — including

of stress. There are

anxiety, but I beheve that
the use of these drugs
