This is not only in poor taste but is bordering on pure sensationalism! You print letters in your “Mailbox” section that tell of people’s repulsion with regards to your “Sunshine Girls” but this ad is beyond all moral discretion. When Dear Editor: Lately there has been a barrage of missiles directed at the Queen of Britain. The intent of certaim letter writers seems to be to falsely inform Canadians as to the role of the monarchy of our state as compared to an absolute monarchy. The true definition of the Queen's role in Canada can be explained as being a limited or constitutional monarchy, because there are limitations on the monarch's power in Canada. There are constitutional bmitations on the power of the monarch in Canada. So far as Canada is concermed, old royal pre- rogatives have largely become a form, exercised by and with the advice of the government in power. As Queen and Head of the Commonwealth, Elizabeth the Second has become a LINK, a powerful and important link, holding the members of the Common- wealth family together. Her Majesty herself has said: “To that new conception of an equal partnership of nations and races, I give myself heart and soul, every day of my six- year -old, non- reading son remarks, “Oh, look at those tiny little feet,” and goes on to inquire as to the meaning of the picture, I shudder to think what goes on in the mind of my older child who can read the caption for herself. I find it disgusting and in the same vein as displaying pictures of decaying war dead and mutilated accident victims. The whole issue behind the “Pro-Life Society” cannot, in my estimation, be greater downgraded and Support for monarchy and Queen of Canada my life.” A Queen who has uttered these profound words should not be so cruelly and erroneously considered Head of a “medieval feudal system.” (M. Cate Simpson North Vancouver West Vancouver School Board approved a district policy at their recent meeting for a _ student assessment program in the municipality. But the trustees shied away from approving guide- lines describing teacher responsibilities and report- ing procedures of assessment results unul the board's instruction committee makes a recommendation. According to Schools Superintendent Ed Carlin, the policy not only adheres to provincial guidelines but will also allow the district to assess students’ achieve- ments, develop and modify curnculum to reflect that and maintain confidentiality of individual student assessment reports.
